The work was founded by the Priest Saint Louis Orione in Turin, Italy, after the 1st world war, beginning a new field of charitable apostolate, for the relief of the poor and sick of all kinds, according to the model of the great work of Turin, founded by Saint Joseph Benedict Cottolengo.

Almost without realizing it, Don Orione opened several charitable houses, which people soon began to call "Little Cottolengo," associating them with the magnificent work of the saint.

Thus, the Little Cottolengos spread throughout Italy and abroad, also reaching our country.

In 2002, the priests of Argentine origin from the Don Orione work founded the Little Cottolengo in Mexico, providing care only to men with disabilities.

In 2020, the administration was handed over to the Congregation of the Daughters of the Cross sisters, founded by the Italian Priest Nunzio Russo , who currently run this Institution, firmly believing that with their service to these children, young people and adults they help to collaborate in building a more humane and fraternal world.

The Daughters of the Cross, in collaboration with the Institute of Occupational Therapy, have undertaken the task of changing from a welfare-based perspective to a human rights-based approach that includes the joint work of a transdisciplinary care team providing medical, psychological, nutritional, occupational, and physical rehabilitation care.
